The NRA Grows a PR Brain

At the first annual Virginia Tech gunfire slaughter / human duck shoot tragedy, the rich, white, privileged children of rich, white, privileged adults were the victims of the handgun-related violence. That's why the NRA is quickly sucking all of the Democratic Party ass that they can lock their lips upon, because they KNOW that a few million poor gunshot black children equals "no fuggin' problem, no new legislation threats, business as usual". Just look at the various racist, sexist and derogatory statements they've made - publicly calling Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton every name in the book. But the NRA's leadership damned well knows that rich, white Virginia Republicans won't just roll over quietly for the gun lobby's militant legal / public (smear) relations wing - not when they have to bury their own kids - along with all of their potential and all of their hopes and dreams - with bullet holes and warm lead still in their corpses. That's just bad ju-ju for the NRA's political agenda.

Last year, in JUST ONE INNER-CITY SCHOOL DISTRICT where the children were predominantly black and Hispanic, they lost a greater number of children to rampant (almost constant) gunfire than most major American cities lose to handgun deaths in any given year. The NRA's response? It was "So what?!"

Yes, of course, the NRA's gun-love fetishists and media-whore barking wombats can always get away with calling James Brady's wife Sarah "a bitch", after all, she is JUST ONE RICH WHITE REPUBLICAN WOMAN with a gunshot brain-damaged husband. But attacking more than 1000 grieving, white, affluent, Republican Virginia Tech Parents and Grand-Parents and Step-Parents? ...all with dead kids rotting in their family plot's recently turned earth? ...in the NRA's home state? ...with the state NRA President's cellphone number programmed on speed dial? Those kinds of disgusting smear tactics - the kind that the NRA has always used on their political opponents - would be a really bad PR move. ...and, more importantly, such tactics would almost CERTAINLY fail.

You have to hand it to them. They are smarter than MOST conservative right-wing Republican organizations. (Think: "skinniest kid at fat camp") What the NRA lacks in morals - and they OBVIOUSLY lack QUITE A LOT in that department - they more than make-up for it in political savvy. I just hope that they don't try to mass-market their political savvy as some kind of newfound morality, because I ain't buyin' it.

If the Virginia Tech slaughter had taken place at Texas Southern University, at Morehouse College, Spelman College, Howard University or Langston University, even with the exact same body count, the NRA would be attacking the grieving parents like starving wolverines right now. You know that - and so do I. If you don't, then you are a fool or a Republican. ...or an NRA member.
